RIP Kristofferson. One of the great sages of our time...a virtually peerless songwriter who also happened to be fiendishly handsome and a superb actor. The envy of mere mortals everywhere. I say 'virtually' peerless as Kris himself heralded Dylan as the very best the one time I was fortunate enough to see him perform.

I remember a newspaper review of that show singling out this song for ridicule...it became one of my favorites from that moment.

We've lost another of the irreplaceable ones, folks.

A year ago I was in the heart of what would be a benchmark European tour, opening for @charleycrockett This photo is from the Shepherd's Bush Empire date - still the biggest show I've ever played.

I've said before that playing traditional country music in the UK and Europe is tough because there is only a very small established market for it. Guys like Charley are bringing it to a new, younger crowd though and it offers light at the end of the tunnel to those of us who must carve out our own paths in order to travel at all.

Thanks for the memories, Charley!

In unrelated news, I recently noticed that my song 'I Hope You're Unhappy' has passed 100,000 streams on Spotify. Guess there are ears for this stuff after all. Thanks for listening, folks.

Well folks, I'm proud to say my new album of James

Well folks, I'm proud to say my new album of James Hand covers 'Your Pal Slim: Songs of James Hand' will be released this November!

As many of you know, James Hand's music has been a huge influence on me and played a pivotal role in my country music education. I have been working on this album since 2020 - truth be told I started planning it the day James died in June that year. There were a few bumps to traverse and it took time to wrangle all the contributors that I wanted to be part of it, all of which just makes me more glad to be able to get it out there now.

The album features James's last permanent guitar player and bandleader Chris McElrath on guitars, as well as contributions from superb artists @jake.penrod , @brennenleigh and @bethchrisman , all of whom played with and loved James Hand. Many people helped along the way, and I am humbled to have had the blessing of the James Hand family to record this album.

No plan for vinyl right now, but who knows what can happen down the road. There are also two full-band album launch shows planned - Fatlils Witney is confirmed for 11th December (get your tickets now!), whilst a London date will be confirmed ASAP.

Hey folks...yep. I wrote a book.

My first novel 'Outside The Light' - a 300+ page crime thriller - will be released via Amazon in paperback and Kindle formats from 16th July! As first revealed to my newsletter subscribers yesterday.

The book follows Mike Rowe, a disillusioned detective who is eager to leave his job, only to be dragged back for one last case. Things are not as they seem: witnesses start turning up dead, and a mystery begins to unravel along with his world. Oh, and he's into some pretty cool music too...

I wrote most of this book during the pandemic before touting it to a few literary agents without success. It sat on the proverbial shelf for a while, during which time several of my music friends released books of their own. Finally, Chris Smith - esteemed radio DJ and author of 'Three Wives & The Truth' - recommended self-publishing through Amazon, and here we are. Writing a book is very intense and time-consuming (don't try it if you have literally any other things to do) so it feels good to be finally getting it out.

'Outside The Light' will be available via Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. The links will be posted on my social media/linktree as soon as they're live, but you should also be able to search for it on Amazon from 16th July. In addition, I intend to procure some copies in-hand for anyone unable to order from those sources. And, with any luck, I will have some for sale at my live shows after release.

Keep your eyes peeled - I hope those of you who do get hold of a copy will enjoy it.

Never fear though, people! I'm not switching gears to become an author...I just wrote a book is all. My real job is playing music for you people, and I'll be out there this very weekend (dates in bio)!

Back from another great trip to the Netherlands - plus one stop in Belgium!

Three of the four shows were outdoors, which one would think was optimistic in May but the weather turned out to be great! I'd like to especially thank Ton Knol and Nico Druijff of the The Oldtime Stringband for backing me up at two shows on guitar and double bass respectively...they killed it!

As always I have Sandra and Luciano of @ldmbookings to thank above anyone else. These are fantastic people who have done an incredible amount for me.
